Scholastic Level Exam (SLE)

Measure a candidate’s basic learning and problem-solving aptitude.

Description

The SLE is a short-form measure of cognitive ability or “ability to learn” - the most powerful predictor of training and job success.

Content

The SLE is the educational testing version of the well-known Wonderlic Personnel Test - Revised that has been used in employee selection since 1937. This connection provides the ability to directly compare student scores to those of applicants for jobs, providing a reliable estimate of the likelihood of employment and successful performance within that particular career.

Cognitive ability is the best single predictor of student academic success. Measures such as grade point average, level of education or special skills are not adequate predictors of an individual’s capacity for learning and applying knowledge on the job.

The 12-minute SLE can be administered in individual or group settings for Career School testing purposes.

Student Admissions

The SLE helps you:

  • Evaluate training potential.
  • Place students in programs for jobs that suit their learning speed and aptitude.
  • Identify students who will need additional help with classroom work, before classes even begin - slower scoring students usually need more hands-on learning opportunities to succeed.

Wonderlic can provide suggested minimum cut scores on this post-secondary test for any training program based upon job applicant and U.S. Department of Labor statistics.

Student Retention

SLE scores help you direct students into programs in which they are most likely to succeed. When programs are too difficult, students often become frustrated and quit. Likewise, if programs are too easy, students often become bored and stop coming to class.

Placing students in appropriate adult education programs dramatically increases the likelihood that they will complete the program.

Job Placement

Student job placement is your school’s best source of marketing. Successful students are:

  • Happy to tell friends and employers about your school.
  • More likely to get jobs in their field of study.
  • Most likely to pay back student loans.

One of the biggest advantages of using the SLE is its direct correlation with Wonderlic’s job applicant tests. Wonderlic has the largest private database of job applicant cognitive ability scores in the private sector. This database provides normative information that shows exactly what employers expect from job applicants. The SLE can quickly show you how students compare to their future competition. This information can be used to promote your students to local employers and to target your admission requirements for each program of study. Wonderlic's research demonstrates that proper use of the SLE in admissions testing can reduce loan default rates.
