Final Field-Testing for Wonderlic’s WPT-R

Wonderlic, Inc., a leading provider of recruiting, assessment and survey technologies, today announces the start of the final phase of field-testing for the newly revised Wonderlic Personnel Test (WPT-R).

The Wonderlic Personnel Test is a 12-minute test of problem solving skills, or cognitive ability, that has been taken by more than 125 million job applicants since its release in 1937. The WPT has been used in employee selection by more than 10,000 organizations. Popularly known for its use in the NFL draft, the WPT is a mainstay at organizations in virtually all industries, many of whom are participating in the field study.

At the conclusion of the study, Wonderlic will have thousands of completed tests for the four new forms. Charles F. Wonderlic, Jr., CEO, explains, “We have clients that have been with us for decades. They are as invested in the success of the new forms as we are. They have contributed more than 15,000 test cases in the previous developmental rounds of the study, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

“The feedback from our clients has been invaluable in the development of the final forms,” says Dr. Wex Lee, the psychologist spearheading the project. “We used their feedback to select the final test items; to refine instructions and formats; and to help determine that the tests are fair to everyone. We have also conducted studies that look at how test-takers perceive the test. We have used this information to improve the applicant experience.”

The new forms are attractive, and carefully designed to include everyday, practical work-related content. “It is very important to us to make test-takers as comfortable as possible with the testing process,” emphasizes Winnie Clonts, Executive V.P. at Wonderlic. The new forms are multiple-choice so they can be administered via the Internet or our “Fax-Back” system. During the study, each test-taker takes an old form of the WPT and a new form of the WPT-R. “After making the revisions suggested in earlier rounds, it was exciting to see test-taker surveys that showed an almost unanimous preference for the new forms over the old.”

Wonderlic is still looking for organizations that are interested in participating in the final phase of the WPT-R research. All materials are supplied to participants free of charge, and results from the WPT can be used immediately in hiring decisions.
